THE SHELTER PEOPLE – Sunshine Lady / Rock n Roll (7″ Vinyl)
Horton Records 45002 – Release date 06.03.2022
After supporting The Sword on their “Used Future” Tour in 2018, The Shelter People set out to record their debut LP, which would have been an extension of the self-titled EP from 2017. They recorded the album twice with Tulsa producer Fayez Mansour, but it was ultimately scrapped to start again from scratch. After recruiting Fulton Pace as a multi-instrumentalist, The Shelter People set out again to self-produce their debut LP with brand new songs and a new sound. However, due to creative differences and rising tension between members, the band dissolved along with the album. This didn’t stop former front man and core lyricist, Dakota Hurley, from continuing The Shelter People’s legacy by approaching Horton Records about releasing two of the songs from the unfinished album that he felt had the most potential on a 45.
“These two songs felt more mature than our previous work and I didn’t want them to be stored on a laptop until I died. I felt that they needed to be heard and I needed to do something with them. They’re special songs to me and could potentially be special to someone else.”
