HORTON RECORDS 11TH ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF NOV. 9 AT CAIN’S BALLROOM
Family-friendly event includes music, chili samples, silent auction & more
TULSA, Okla. July 18, 2024 – Tickets are on sale now for the 11th Annual Horton Records Rock ’n Folk ’n Chili Cookoff, Saturday Nov. 9, 2024, beginning at 5:30 PM at Tulsa’s historic Cain’s Ballroom.The Paul Benjaman Band headlines the evening, playing their deep cuts, as well as new music from Benjaman’s latest release, My Bad Side Wants A Good Time. Singer, songwriter, and session musician Jesse Aycock joins the lineup with a full band and special guests. One-man-band Hosty (Norman’s Mike Hosty), Labrys, a musical project of BRONCHO bassist Penny Pitchlynn, the Dull Drums, and Cherokee Country Western artist Agalisiga “Chuj” Mackey round out the evening’s entertainment. Proceeds from this all-ages, family-friendly event support Oklahoma musicians and music projects through the Tulsa-based nonprofit Horton Records.
In addition to musical performances from Oklahoma artists, the evening features chili samples from Tulsa-area restaurants and food trucks, door prizes, live art, raffles, and silent auctions. Past chili winners have included Ike’s Chili, Two Guys One Pot, The Wurst, and Frank and Lola’s. This year’s chili lineup will be announced in the coming weeks. Attendees can vote for their favorite chili, and the grand-prize-winner will receive a full-sized, authentic title belt, along with boxing gloves, wraps, and a three-month gym membership courtesy of Tulsa’s Engine Room Boxing Gym.
“Cain’s Ballroom is celebrating its centennial this year, and we’re honored and privileged to present this event for the 11th time at this historic venue as part of the festivities,” says Brian Horton, President of Horton Records.“The Chili Cook-off is a great opportunity to showcase our Oklahoma-based artists at this legendary, independent venue every year, while also highlighting other parts of the community. It doesn’t get much better than music, food, and art, especially in Tulsa at Cain’s Ballroom.”
Donations of non-perishable food and coats will be collected at the door for those in need. Those who choose to donate will receive a free t-shirt. All tickets include all-you-can-sample chili from Tulsa area restaurants and food trucks (while supplies last).
Horton Records, a volunteer-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) Tulsa music organization, was a 2022 Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards finalist in the “Arts and Humanities” category. The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits’ ONE Awards honor 21 nonprofits throughout the state for superior leadership and exceptional service to their constituents and communities. In 2022, the label released ᎠᏅᏛᏁᎵᏍᎩ (Anvdvnelisgi, pronounced “Ah Nuh Duh Nay Lees Gi”) or “Performers,” a groundbreaking contemporary album of original music performed entirely in the Cherokee language. Produced by Jeremy Charles, the project is supported by the Zarrow Family Foundations’ Commemoration Fund.

Horton Records is a volunteer-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) Tulsa music organization. Its mission is to provide services that develop and support musicians in the Tulsa area, while fostering community with other creative partners and building on the rich musical heritage in the region. Horton Records has officially released more than 120 titles from Oklahoma artists and distributed more than 150,000 physical units worldwide. Each year, it books more than 100 shows on behalf of Oklahoma artists, free of charge, with approximately $50,000 annually being paid directly to musicians.
